Global Demographics and deep learning analytics platform Complete Intelligence Technologies Ltd launch a China Maternity Cliff Report alerting markets and businesses to a faster decline in total births in China and earlier than previously expected peak population date.

China Maternity Cliff Report insights:   

  • Maternity cliff drives decline in births as number of childbearing women (ages 15-49) drops 55 million, from 346 million in 2018 to 291 million in 2033

  • Mothers no longer delivering on pent up demand for children after One Child Policy

  • Baby boom ends early as total births drop from 17.3 million in 2017 to 15.2 million in 2018

  • One-third (31%) fewer births in 2028, falls from 17.3 million in 2017 to 11.8 million in 2028

  • Peak population now expected in 2023 not 2028, peaking at 1,410 million.

  • Population now projected to decline to 1,408 million by 2028, then 1,367 million by 2038
